Befriend your emotions

When my kids were very young I wanted to protect and shield them from pain, but as they grow I believe it’s important to teach them not to run from it but to be with it. I do not want them to ignore any of their emotions but rather to make space for them, so they can learn from and transmute them.

I was not modeled or taught this growing up so I’ve had to learn it myself and allow my kids to watch me embody the full spectrum of my own emotions and be ok with it.

Our pain, fear, sadness, anger, confusion and rage are not our enemies and are certainly not to be ignored or shamed.

Our feelings can be the most significant teachers, mirrors and windows into our souls.

They give us the clues we need to deepen our understanding of ourselves, they are facilitators for the healing and growth we need.

They point us to our values our passions, our purposes and ultimately if not resisted but worked with will point us to our destiny.

Whatever your feeling during this time I encourage you to sit with it, examine it, make space for it, and allow it to become the fuel you need in your life to transform.
