In lack and in plenty

One of my favorite seasons in our marriage was one when we had the least amount of money.

We had just moved and dumped all that we had into the start-up of our new office.

We shared a car, so most days I was at home all day, taught myself to be a great cook and learned how to make just about everything from scratch.

For fun, we played in nature, had picnics by the water and for date nights we would put the kids to bed and hang out in our room since there wasn’t extra for a babysitter.

When resources are tight there is this natural invitation to become more creative, resourceful and find delight in the simple.

Since then we’ve been blessed to travel the world, stay at the coolest places, eat at the best restaurants, and go on the most epic adventures.

Yet at the end of the day, I still prefer a home-cooked meals, picnic dinners, sunsets, and bedroom dates.
